Happy Halloween!

It was really fun to see all the kids out in costume:) On Saba they actually got to wear their costumes outside without four sweaters or a snowsuit underneath...crazy!! I had no idea how many kids their were on the island, but I think we had about 40 trick or treaters! I think before today I only saw a handful of kids in total. Halloween in Saba was celebrated on Saturday because the kids here trick or treat from business to business and store are closed on Sunday, going house to house would be WAY to hard:) So keeping with tradition, as part of the SOS Anne and I parked her car in the parking lot, decorated the trunk and handed out candy to the kids!!! Anne and I had no idea how this was going to work so we just winged it...I was able, with creative use of my hair and a borrowed bow from my 2 year old friend Sydney to pull off a costume which seemed to pass as Minnie Mouse

The Land Before Time...

After school, Nathan and I decided to enjoy the evening and go for a walk.Walking around Saba, sometimes makes you feel like you've stepped into The Land Before Time and dinosaurs do exist! Here are a couple photos of the creatures we saw along the way...

Carribbean Thanksgiving:)

It's been a while since I posted something.

Lot's has happened in the last month and it's hard to know where to start. 

The major drama in our world was the torrential rain for four days last week and the subsequent ankle deep flooding of the whole apartment. 

Eventually it stopped. 

And we (with lots of help from our friends) 

were able to mop up the water. 

At first we thought it was the cisterns overflowing. 

But above them was the only dry place in the whole apartment so the source of the water remains a mystery. 

Thankfully the rain stopped in time for the weekend, no planes or boats, (including boats with food) were able to come to the island for almost a week, our food supply was getting low! We had planned on going out to eat friday night but the restaurant was closed due to a lack of food! 

The boat came saturday and our friend Steve's parents Al and Anne from PEI were able to arrive safely at their expected time. They bought us the only turkey on the island! 

It was so nice to have parents around, even if they weren't mine;) 

Together with Steve's mom and my friend Anne, we prepared a traditional Canadian Thanksgiving dinner for ten Canadian friends, in full celebration of the 'real' Thanksgiving. It was a taste of home and nothing on this island has tasted so good:) That is until I make my favorite, Turkey soup:)

Back to school Blues

Even though I knew all along i was going back to school. I guess it didn't feel real as I didn't do any back to school shopping. I didn't even get any new school supplies, the perks of living with a student I guess;) on my first day of school, I had to wait until lunch time before I had access to my online courses due to the timezones. But I 'attended' my first day and I didn't even have to leave my bedroom. Nathan jokes with me and says i am going to try and get my whole masters from bed. i wish that were true but often the internet doesn't work very well from bed:( Therefore I started using one of Nathans tables as a desk, he had two tables pushed together. apparently I was invading his personal space because i came home one day to find he pushed the tables apart and made me my own desk... It was actually really nice, but i like to give him a hard time. So I am a student again and it is going to be a lot of work, maybe the crazy lady who told me not to take this many classes had a point, but i'll prove her wrong...I just have too! Other than reluctantly getting back into school mode I have been really busy meeting all kinds of new people on the island, mostly other wives or significant others of students and professors. One of the girls does Zumba dance two nights a week, it is so much fun! It is Latin/dance infused aerobics. and I am taking up sewing/ quilting Thursday mornings. this week was our first lesson and we are making pot holders:) I will keep you posted and promise some more big photos now that I know how to get them~*Angela
